The Difference Between Silicone and Glass Cupping

Cupping is a type of alternative therapy that involves placing cups on the skin to create suction. The benefits of cupping therapy include local pain relief and muscle relaxation. It also is known to help increase blood flow to a specific muscle region and help reduce pain. Cupping may also ease symptoms of back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, high blood pressure, gastrointestinal disorders, etc.

The application of silicone vs. glass cups varies. Glass cups require the use of fire to create suction by pushing the air out of the cup before applying to the skin. With glass cupping, it tends to create more suction. When applying silicone cups, you want to make sure that you apply a type of cream or lotion, and then squeeze the cup onto the skin and release it to create suction. Glass and silicone cupping treatments serve the same purpose; however, their techniques are different. You want to make sure the practitioner knows what they’re doing, because you are dealing with flames when performing glass cupping.

A friendly reminder that your cupping sessions during massage are complimentary. In massage we do use silicone cups. If you want to try glass cupping, feel free to call the office, or hop online to schedule your appointment.
